  • Hello!

    The Photography Smiths consist of husband/wife photographers Mikey and Samantha Smith.

    We think moments shouldn’t just be captured, they should be handcrafted. And while we’re not great with words, we believe in the power of images to tell our story, and if you’d like, they can tell yours too.

    Thank you for taking the time to stop by our blog. Here you can find some of our favorite work and personal adventures along the way.

    Available for travel worldwide :).

10 at 10 {A Monday Blog}

It’s been a while since we’ve done a random 10 at 10 blog. Things have been crazy busy and with all the sessions, wedding and the studio! This weekend was so amazing though we needed to have a recap!

1. Figuring out holiday plans can be the absolute worst! No matter where you go there will be traffic and hoards of people!

2. After hours of discussing Mikey and I decided to just stay local. We had a fun morning of hanging out around the house then took Cohen to the new Monsters University movie. Then after a Chick-filet dinner we headed to Kings Dominion to ride a few ride and stay for their Fourth of July fireworks.

3. Did you know Virginia Beach is only 120 miles away from Fredericksburg? I did not know this…till I saw a highway marker sign and I thought to myself ‘It’s 6:00pm if I can make it there by 8:30 we will have plenty of time to see the firework – we could also meet up with my sister who lives down there.’ And 120 miles seems a lot shorter then saying 2hours and 30 mins.

4. It did help that Mikey had a late night the day before and had fallen asleep I decided to go with my gut. I saw the exit for Kings Dominion but I just kept driving. To confirm my decision I did ask Cohen ‘See your cousins at the beach or go to the Kings Dominion?’ He agreed ‘BEACH! BEACH!’

5. HA! I wish I took a picture of Mikey’s face when he woke up and saw we were still driving! Seriously priceless! He knows I like to do crazy things so he was OK with it other then he ask ‘What about clothes?’ I replied ‘We’re wearing them!’ He didn’t think that was very funny!

6. We made it right as they were closing the roads down – which threw us for a loop but we were able to go around it all! For some reason I had this idea of sitting on the beach with our toes in the sand but in reality there was a sea of people and we ended up in a hotel parking lot! No worries it was still wonderful!

7. Our Virginia Beach adventure last for one more day! Our anniversary was July 5th and it just so happened to be our 5 year anniversary! We spent the day just relaxing, had a family BBQ then jumped back on the road at midnight to beat the traffic.

8. The rest of the weekend was such a blur! We needed time to recover from traveling!  We did have a really amazing senior session yesterday, finished up some editing, made our July goals then chilled out some more!

9. So whats to come! July will be a busy month- we have lots of great sessions, a few shoots with local vendors and two amazing weddings!

10. We hope everyone had an amazing and fun holiday!!! Below is a photo to remind us that each year of marriage is something to really celebrate:)

John and Stephanie {Richmond, VA Wedding Photographer}

A small and intimate wedding is a wonderful way to get married! Then to go on an amazing honeymoon in Mexico then come home and prep for a wedding celebration is really the way to do it! That’s what our bride and groom did! In case you missed yesterday’s post be sure to go back and take a look at John and Stephanie’s gorgeous intimate wedding at Lake Gaston here!

As most of you know, planning a wedding is hard work! I still can not believe how amazing both weddings were and just so lucky to have them on two very gorgeous June days! Stephanie’s attention to details is unreal and no detail was forgotten. We loved how laid back this day was! Since John and Stephanie were already married they were able to get ready together and help each other! The sweetest part was when John helped Stephanie with her shoes. The location was perfect for this fun celebration!

The celebration was held on a Richmond farm called Farvue. Stephanie added such a fun vibe to the farm not only was it rustic/country but just so bright and cheerful! An oh goodness the antlers – LOVE!!! We had a gorgeous view and James, Justin and Company could play as loud as they wanted to get make this celebration a real party! They did such an amazing job with the entertainment! Everyone was dancing!

Enjoy a few of our favorites from the day!

xoxo,

Samantha

John and Stephanie {Lake Gaston Wedding Photographer}

June weddings are a favorite of ours but two is always better then one! John and Stephanie decided to have a small intimate wedding at Stephanie’s parent’s gorgeous home in Lake Gaston, NC. Then a wedding celebration with all their family and friends two weeks later. One amazing wedding is a lot but Stephanie is a professional event planner so of course she could handle two! She’s just so talented!

I LOVE working with these two over the past year and could not wait to see what was in store for their day! This wedding was unbelievable and the weather was amazing! We could not have had a better June day! Stephanie’s attention to fine detail made everything come together so perfectly! From the monogramming to the grand exit – this wedding had it all!

Enjoy a few of our favorites from their day! Be sure to check back in tomorrow to see the amazingness of their wedding celebration!!!!

Frank and Ashley {Richmond Engagement Photographer}

Summer storms have been hitting us hard lately! As I drove down to Richmond for this amazing session the sky grew darker and darker. I was getting pretty worried because earlier in the day the forecast was calling for nothing but sun! But when these two stepped out of their car my heart seriously skipped a beat! I LOOOOVED their outfits! So perfect for a cloudy day on a gorgeous lake!

We decided to shoot their engagements at their amazing venue Celebration on the Reservoir. This way we could look around and get a feel for what it will be like on their September wedding! To say I am a little ecstatic would be an understatement because this venue is AMAZING!!! There was a few different ceremony and reception sites to pick from but I have to say Ashley and Frank’s area is absolutely perfect! After this gorgeous emotion-filled session I am even more excited for their big day!

Enjoy a few of our favorite images!

xoxo,

Samantha
