  • Hello!

    The Photography Smiths consist of husband/wife photographers Mikey and Samantha Smith.

    We think moments shouldn’t just be captured, they should be handcrafted. And while we’re not great with words, we believe in the power of images to tell our story, and if you’d like, they can tell yours too.

    Thank you for taking the time to stop by our blog. Here you can find some of our favorite work and personal adventures along the way.

Danny and Olivia {Old Town Alexandria Engagement Session}

As Danny and Olivia’s wedding quickly approaches next month it was fun to go back through their engagement session last fall in Old Town Alexandria and pull some of our favorite images. There session was actually on the same day as Brad and Charlotte’s sunrise shoot that took place in Charlottesville so after their session we had an amazing breakfast at Bluegrass Grill and Bakery because if you follow us on Instagram you know a lot of our plans revolve around amazing places to eat. After a great breakfast it was back on the road to Alexandria which is always unpredictable with traffic but we ended up not running into any at all so with some extra time before their session we ended up going to see a movie, We love being able to work together because even though we work all the time it occasionally allows us to have a date day in between sessions. Which is a great time for us to momentarily put business aside and just focus on us and being husband and wife.

We were excited to finally be able to meet Danny he was unable to make it to our initial consult but from everything Olivia had told us we knew he would be great.  Danny and Olivia have such great chemistry together it was really fun getting to see them interact with each other and how they responded to certain things. They both made it so easy and we had a ton of fun walking around and shooting with them we completely lost track of time. Their Stevenson Ridge wedding is going to be amazing and we can’t wait! Check out a few of our favorites from their session.

Rob and Juls {Skyline Drive Engagement Session}

We have so many amazing sessions that never had the opportunity to be shared on our blog or Facebook so we want to take some time to start highlighting some of those awesome past sessions.  Over the next couple weeks will be mixing in some of these past session along with some of our current stuff that we have been shooting as well. I won’t promise that the blog will be revived into something more than it has been over the last couple years but as Facebook continues to change the way businesses are allowed to reach those who “like” their pages its going to be important for us to have another means of sharing with all of our current and future clients as well as their friends and families.

We love engagement sessions its a great time for us to get to know our brides and grooms and see just how they interact with one another and respond to some of the prompts or crazy things that we ask them to do. We always suggest to our couples that they choose a location that means something to them for their sessions, sure we know a ton of amazing spots and are always happy to make suggestions but we love the challenge of shooting in new places and having them choose ensures that their session will be unique to them and that’s ultimately what we really want. Rob and Juls did just that when they emailed us and asked if we would be willing to meet them out on skyline drive it didn’t take any extra convincing on our part we were thrilled to head out to some of the most beautiful landscape in the state. If you have not taken a chance to go out and enjoy some of the 105 miles that make up skyline drive I highly recommend checking it this fall.

We had a blast with Rob and Juls exploring some of the areas and just driving around and stopping anywhere along the way that had an amazing view. Check out a few of our favorites from their session below.

Brad and Charlotte {Charlottesville Engagement Session}

Whew, its been a long time since we’ve blogged! With wedding season starting early this year and a really busy winter – blogging always seems to get pushed aside. Maybe its because I’m not writer but I do LOVE showing off my gorgeous couple’s. Since we have 10 engagements sessions coming up this month now’s the perfect time for us to get caught up and showoff some of our engagement sessions from the fall.

Brad and Charlotte were so wonderful to meet us at 6:30 am for a gorgeous foggy sunrise session. Their choice of location was absolutely perfect to show off Charlottesville’s amazing scenery. We are so excited for their July wedding!!

Enjoy a few of our favorites!!!

Xoxo,

Samantha

The Bridal Series {United Style Shoot|Sunrise Trash the Dress}

Last week was crazy! I’m not sure how I missed out on posting on the business page that we would be gone for a week to Santa Barbara. I guess things were just so crazy trying to be prepared for our sunrise trash the dress we were leading. Every year we attend United an amazing photography conference out in Santa Barbara called United. This was our second time hosting a shoot for United – you can see the first one here. I’ve been looking forward to this session since last year’s amazing turn out! So this year we tried to do it a little bigger by having three gorgeous models.

Everyone attending met in the lobby at 6:30 so for us and the models that meant meeting at 4:30am to start hair and makeup! Completely insane and crazy ….yes! It was about 43 degrees the morning of the shoot and can you believe that all three models agreed to get in the water. Whew, they were so brave because it was so cold! It was worth it though because the images are amazing!!! Thanks ladies for being so amazing!

Enjoy our favorites!!!

xoxo,

Samantha
