The Photography Smiths bio picture
  • Hello!

    The Photography Smiths consist of husband/wife photographers Mikey and Samantha Smith.

    We think moments shouldn’t just be captured, they should be handcrafted. And while we’re not great with words, we believe in the power of images to tell our story, and if you’d like, they can tell yours too.

    Thank you for taking the time to stop by our blog. Here you can find some of our favorite work and personal adventures along the way.

    Available for travel worldwide :).

Chris and Jenna {Wedding at The Old Waterford School}

Do you ever expect amazingness but then the amazingness that is expected is even more amazing then what you expect? Confused? Well wait till you see this gorgeous wedding!!! We LOVE shooting at new venues and we LOVE detail. This wedding had both and if you add a gorgeous bride and groom – oh goodness Mikey and I could not hide our excitement! When Jenna and Chris were filling us in on the details we were not sure what to expect but based on their style and Jenna’s amazing attention to detail we knew their wedding was going to be absolutely perfect!

The day started off with very heavy rain and there were suppose to be storms all day long. Luckily, it seemed to all stop the moment it was time for photos! Their wedding was held in a tiny town just north of us in Waterford, VA. This town was so cute! Around every corner is a perfect spot for photos! We had such a great time walking around!

Enjoy a few of our favorites and don’t miss all the great dancing at the end!

xoxo,

Samantha

KC and Tricia {Potomac Point Winery Engagement}

I think we can all agree – this weather has been CRAZY! Seriously, we need a break from this rain but I am so thankful to have the chance to test my limits and try something different. We had thunderstorms and heavy rain all day long. At first, we thought about cancelling but then we decided just to chance it and see what happen. Oh my goodness! I am soo glad we did! I think shooting in-between storms my favorite time now! The light is so yummy and with Tricia’s contrasting red dress all the photos are so vivid! These two are so darn gorgeous together! I love the why Tricia’s just fits into KC’s arms and the way they look at each other – ah just pure love!

Enjoy a few of our favorites!

xoxo,

Samantha

Paul and Ginny {Maryland Engagement Photographer}

If we could pick just one place to shoot at it would definitely be a farm. Mikey and I loooove some tall grass, old barns and gorgeous scenery. Paul and Ginny decided to have their engagement session at Paul’s childhood home in Maryland. We had such a great time exploring this retired farm and watching their dogs disappear in the fields then suddenly come out of no where just as I had Ginny and Paul in place!

Their session started off sunny and gorgeous then just 45 minutes later clouds started rolling in. No worries though, we went with it and Mikey was able to get some amazing shots of the sky! We finished their session right as it started pouring – by pouring I mean monsoon weather!

Enjoy a few of our favorites!!

xoxo,

Samantha

Norman and Giva {Beloved Portraits}

Being a photographer there’s a lot I have to be thankful for. When I first started in this crazy industry I had no clue what type of photographer I wanted to be and here I am years later and still questioning myself from time to time. But there’s one thing for sure I know I need to do. I know I have a need to document love – real love. Beloved portraits are not just typical sessions where I stand you in front of my camera and ask you to ‘say cheese’. We will pose you in such a way that I pull those emotions outand in just a way it shows through in your photos. Norman and Giva made my job so easy though I told them they made my high school senior couples look like pure amateurs compared to them. Their love was so undeniable – I am so thankful I had the chance to experience this type of true love!

Norman wrote this beautiful message on his Facebook page the day after his session. Reading it just reminded me how much more I need to concentrate on documenting real love –

‘After doing a photo shoot yesterday with my wife, it hit me all over again that Giva was, is, will always be the most beautiful woman I know. Her beauty radiates from within her & springs forth to every person she comes in contact with, There is no doubt in my mind that this beauty comes from her love of God because of her daily relationship with God. She has shown me who Jesus is from the first day I met her & I would say if you want to know what a real Christian is like, get to know my incredible wife. She exemplifies the true spirit of who Jesus is & what Jesus taught about life. I love you always & forever Giva & I thank God I was the man who was fortunate to call you my wife.’

Happy 22 years of marriage you two!!!

Please enjoy a few of our favorites!

xoxo,

Samantha

Patrick and Kelly {The Mill at Fine Creek Wedding}

Oh goodness – get ready to see one absolutely gorgeous wedding. Last year, when we did Kelly and Patrick’s engagement session you could seriously just feel the love in every single photo. But don’t worry their wedding is no different! We’re just feel so lucky to always work with such amazing couples! The wedding ceremony and reception were held at The Mill at Fine Creek. This was our first time shooting here and I have to say I hope we get to come back soon! Their venue is an absolute photographer’s dream! Around every corner there’s something beautiful! I love shooting in green areas with lots of texture and oh goodness – well you just have to see it for yourself!

We were so lucky to have such a gorgeous day! Earlier in the week we had nothing but rain! I was a little worried about how the weather would be but man did we get lucky! The light could not have been any better! Kelly and Patrick decided on doing a first look. We LOVE first looks because it give our couples a chance to have a more private moment with each other. This way when you see each other for the first time it just you too – no one else. I LOVE this! Plus, we are able to get more photos of just the two of you! Kelly and Patrick are going to have such a fun time picking out their favorites now for their album!

Not only did they have a beautiful first look and ceremony but also an awesome dance party reception! We love a packed dance floor! Patrick’s amazing family even planned a surprise flash dance mob!!! Patrick and Kelly’s faces are priceless! We do not do video but Mikey just so happened to have our canon DSLR that video enabled. So we put together a quick video for them so they could remember how awesome their family was! Check it out here.

Enjoy some of our favorites of Patrick and Kelly’s beautiful Spring wedding!
