The Photography Smiths bio picture
  • Hello!

    The Photography Smiths consist of husband/wife photographers Mikey and Samantha Smith.

    We think moments shouldn’t just be captured, they should be handcrafted. And while we’re not great with words, we believe in the power of images to tell our story, and if you’d like, they can tell yours too.

    Thank you for taking the time to stop by our blog. Here you can find some of our favorite work and personal adventures along the way.

    Available for travel worldwide :).

The Bridal Series {The Romantic Bride}

Ahhh soooo excited to share our third installment of The Bridal Series!! In case your just joining in – be sure to check out the first two here and here. Don’t you just LOVE a flowy pink dress, heavy wind and a unreal sunset!!! This shoot was AMAZING!!! Our hair and makeup took a little bit longer then usual so we started very late. I think all together we only had 30 mins of shooting but wow we got A LOT of AMAZING images!! I just love the pink dress and the way the fabric would fly when the wind went by – it was UNREAL! When many think people think of a bride the first thing they picture is a big white dress but its your day! You should  show your own style! Personally, I should of had a pink dress 😀

This week is more focused on a romantic feel with some very gorgeous lighting. It’s really hard to capture those beautiful painted skies along with yummy golden sun photos but Mikey and I strive to achieve both on a wedding day! For this shoot we really focused on our use of light and how to create it quickly. I just love the soft feel of the first photos and that of the more contrasty ones as the sun started to set. Again, we didn’t use a real model but Tessa really should model!!! She’s such a natural! I really want all brides to see and know they can have all these amazing images too!! Let us help you make it happen!

Enjoy part three of The Bridal SeriesThe Romantic Bride!!!

xoxo

Samantha

What’s Next {Personal}

Last Thursday we were very fortunate to hang out with a bunch of VERY talented photographers at the Justin & Mary What’s Next Tour. We are soo lucky to have a close community of friends who we can lean on for support and help us focus on our goals. If you’ve never heard Mary Marantz talk then you are seriously missing out! She is one of the most inspiring people I have ever met! I just LOVE how she helps your figure out what you want to do for your business and helps you break down the steps on how you will do it. Have you ever had so many goals though your not sure where to start? Thats us! We have a lot of plans for the year but we plan on tackling each one at a time! Starting with finishing our branding!

Well, we are here in 2013 – actually 22 day in. New year means a fresh start and even though we started our rebranding process back in August we are finally almost finished with the most important part – THE WEBSITE ! Our AMAZING designers, Hey, Sweet Pea have been working with us over the last few months on not just creating an awesome logo and site but also a brand that represent us. I could go on and on about how amazing Elise and her team are but I’ll save that for another post:)

So be ready!! Drum roll please……..LAUNCH DAY is in one week from today! (Jan 29th)!! So be ready for sneak peeks on our Facebook and Instagram followed by awesome giveaways to celebrate such an exciting time for Mikey and I !!!

Can’t wait to share the amazingness!!!

xoxo

Samantha

The Adventures of Cohen {The Weekly Session}

Cohen HATES having his photo taken or at least he use too. Within the past three months I feel like instead of a regular three year I have a little model in the making. This child posing and sneaky smile just melts my heart!! When we use to triedto take Cohen’s photo before he would immediately throw a fit/start crying/hide – sometimes a mixture of all three! But lately he LOVES it ….really just eats up the lime light and if its a stranger taking the photos then be ready for him to bring on the cuteness 😀

When trying to find baby photos of Cohen I realized we really didn’t take to many photos except the iPhone which completely works for those candid moments. That’s great but I don’t want him to look back and think ‘my parents are professional photographers and all I have are iPhone photos?’ So Mikey and I came up with the idea of weekly sessions – this may seem like an overkill but we don’t do them every week but we really try too!! Along with the weekly sessions we also try to do a monthly family session so we can remember how skinny we were when we’re older 😉

Here are some of our favorites from last week’s Cohen session. He didn’t tell me it was his favorite session ever but you can definitely see that it was. Bringing the Jeep was one of my greatest ideas! He came up with some of the funniest poses and would not let me push his collar down – yup that our crazy cute kid!

Enjoy!

And this is when I know he’s done ‘Mom, stop ….STOP!’

The Bridal Series {The Whimsical Woodland Bride}

Ahhh!!! So excited for the second chapter in our series! I promises you all last week that each would be completely different from the other and as you can see from the image above – yes! This one is going to different!! The Whimsical Woodland Bride came from my love for the dreamy forest look. I am a little obsessed with ivy and pretty much anything green when it comes to shooting!! I just love the texture!

Our model, Holly did an amazing job!!! I love using real people vs models because you can see how I work with REAL people! But after she sees these images she might think about sending a few in to different modeling agencies 😉 Even though it looks like a sunny and warm day let me tell you – it was FREEZING!! But Holly worked though it and makes the absolute best model face!!!

Please enjoy the second installment of The Bridal Series!!!!

xoxo

Samantha
